100 with WebAccess improves safety monitoring of China's Coal
Mines.

Government
offices monitor safety at coalmines using Echelon's LonWorks
technology and Broadwin's WebAccess HMI and SCADA software.
October 20, 2004 -
San Ramon, California
Shanxi province holds the
richest coal reserves in China and is a major coal producer
with hundreds of small and medium sized mines. Coalmine accidents are a
frequent hazard in the province, due to a lack safety
monitoring and low risk awareness among miners. The
accidents in the coal rich province, led the Shanxi provincial
government to implement systems to monitor coalmine safety.
|
| One of the first systems
brought on-line utilizes
LonWorks
control system technology
from Echelon and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
(SCADA) software from Broadwin Technology Inc.
Echelon's
LonWorks
Technology
Echelon's LonWorks
was
selected for the reliability provided by its distributed,
multiple-node network architecture.
Each node in the LonWorks
architecture runs independently of the others; this allows the
system to continue to monitor the mine if an explosion or rock
fall crushed some of monitoring equipment.
Echelon's
i.LON100 was
selected for its Internet connectivity and the ability to
access data remotely.

Implementing
WebAccess
Broadwin Technology's
WebAccess HMI & SCADA software provides the Human Machine
Interface (HMI) to the i.LON
100 control and monitoring
system. WebAccess generates graphical displays of trends,
historical and real-time data, alarms and reports that can be
viewed in a web browser.
|
|
WebAccess allows management and
officials to remotely monitor conditions at the mine using an
ordinary web browser over the Internet or a dial-up
connection.
WebAccess was selected over
other HMI software for its reputation for reliability and
proven interface with the iLON100 at other facilities
throughout China.
The WebAccess system monitors
the ventilation system including fan operation, airflow and
toxic gases via the i.LON
100 and the LonPoint field
hardware. If fans fail or toxic gases are detected, the
system generates alarms.
Similar systems are to be
installed at all coalmines in the Shanxi Province.
By increasing safety at the
coalmines, the Shanxi provincial government expects to
increase business development in the region.
