Windows Vista support added in version 6.0 of Broadwin WebAccess. But not all
Vista / Hardware combinations support all VIEW client features.
Broadwin is
releasing WebAccess version 6.0 with support for Windows Vista. I just
want to emphasize some attributes of Vista to help you plan future projects
using Windows Vista.
INTEL and
AMD Dual Core PCs running Vista support all
features
It appears most Dual
Core INTEL and AMD PCs produced after 2006 support all features in the
WebAccess Client using Vista.
Older
Single Core PCs running Vista do not support Video, Reports, ODBC Logs as Web
Clients
Windows Vista
running on some hardware platforms (for example single core INTEL and AMD) do
not support Video, Tools, Reports and web browser controls inside a graphic
display from a web browser client (VIEW). Note that ViewDAQ works fine.
It appears most Dual Core INTEL and AMD PCs produced after 2006 do support
all features in the WebAccess Client using Vista. It is recommended to test a
Vista based PC, especially a single core PC, before using it as a
WebAccess web browser VIEW Client. It appears to be a problem of calling a
web browser control inside an existing web browser. Project Node and SCADA node
features work fine, it is just the Web browser client that does
not support Video, ODBC Logs and Reports in VIEW on single core PCs running
Vista.
SCADA
Node and Project Node use Vista Business
The SCADA node and
Project Node require either Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. We don't see
any benefit in paying the extra for Ultimate because Vista Business comes with
unlimited simultaneous web browser connections (previously Windows
2000 Professional and XP Professional were limited to 10 simultaneous
web connections).
IIS is locked-down in Vista and needs
to be enabled
As part of the
increased security of Vista, most features that were automatically enabled
in 2000, 2003 and XP are disabled by default in IIS (Internet
Information Server). There are descriptions in the release
notes, the Install Guide and Engineering Manual about enabling IIS (Internet
Information Server) to work with WebAccess because Vista comes locked-down.
